Off to Italy soon!

Ciao a tutti!

So some of you may have heard that I won a scholarship to go to Italy in January....well, this blog will tell the story!

I'm hoping to have lots of awesome food, different and new ice creams, as well as meet a lot of new people, and of course speak Italian the whole time!

I'm off to a place called 'Lecce' which is in the region of Puglia.

The Province of Lecce (Italian: Provincia di Lecce) is on the south-eastern edge of Italy, the province occupies an area called the Penisola Salentina with the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ionian to the south and west. The province has a rugged landscape with a reddish color.

The two well know lakes in this province are the Alimini Grande and Alimini Piccolo. The local cuisine shows traits of Arab, Spanish and Greek dishes, and the local dialect has many similarities with ancient Greek. The ancient name of the province was Terra d’Otranto and it's capital is Lecce.

Here is the provincial flag:

There are about 800,000 people in this region and the website is here: http://www.provincia.le.it/

I'm getting pretty excited and I hope I can share a lot of the cool things (mostly food I hope) with you :)

  2. Ok so I've looked ahead a bit (and am a late arrival at the blog) but I seem to recall you saying this part of Italy is 'not so nice'!! I think it's great that you're getting a chance to see yet another part of the country you've adopted as 'second best'!!!
